How to prevent the adding of opinion pieces to otherwise well sourced articles?
If you have any suggestions. Please put them here.--Thedirt 02:52, 26 February 2011 (CST)
- I think we need to add a namespace called something like one of the following:
- Opinion
- Original
- Editorial
- Blog
- This will allow the addition of original (unsourced) material to the wiki, in a dedicated namespace that doesn't taint the rest of the wiki by mixing sourced and unsourced material in an article. At the top of each namespace page should be a banner reminding the reader that they are on a namespace section that may not contain sourced material, and how to get back to the main article that's well sourced. Thanks to User:Milintactivist for this fantastic idea! I hope you come back and appreciate it's implementation, should it become a reality (and I hope it does).

- This is a fantastic idea! This could be the answer we were looking for. It could work for both this and the academic wiki we're working on!Orly21 20:27, 27 February 2011 (CST)
- The Namespaces aren't working right. I'm designing a new technique. See Stephen H. Lewis and tell me, what do you think? --Thedirt 22:08, 2 March 2011 (CST)
Editing (by Anonymous)
I'm guessing that you can set it so that any registered user can edit, but it isn't published unless a moderator accepts it. That might be a way to deal with frequent attacks.--Anonymous
- That might be possible, but I don't know how to do it (at this time). I feel it would be best not to do this unless a problem occurs. i.e., best not to implement such a feature (should it exist) unless/until someone abuses the wiki, and depending on how difficult to is to deal with. Remember, we can block users and revert changes very easily if vandalism occurs. If anyone disagrees, let me know.--Thedirt 16:30, 9 February 2011 (EST)
- We are locking (protecting) some pages (Main Page, Disclaimer, etc), so that only administrators can edit them. For those pages, if you'd like to make changes or additions, please add them on the talk page of that article.--Thedirt 20:27, 27 February 2011 (CST)
- There is an option to block "New & Unregistered Users" when protecting a page. This will prevent new users from editing a protected article until they have made enough edits and have been a member for a few days. This should be the preferred locking method for most pages that need to be protected.--Thedirt 23:17, 27 February 2011 (CST)

Shall we keep these separate? Consolidate? The following is a good link to copy/paste from: http://blogs.alternet.org/about/ Orly21 09:50, 16 May 2011 (CDT)
