I'm not sure that this quote is actually true: "The AAP has since withdrawn the committee's report and has rewritten it completely. [18]"

As far as I know, no new position statement has been written. The article cited merely says "The AAP has since withdrawn the committee's report and is now rewriting it completely." Notice this is the present tense. AFAIK, they have simply re-affirmed the old 1998 policy and no new one has been made. Anyone else looked into this? Bocagrande 01:34, 17 October 2011 (CDT)

UTIs

It appears the AAP dismantled the UTI argument in their 1999 statement, as they debunked and dismissed Wiswell's work. It appears that the AAP is trying to revive the UTI myth in its latest write-up on UTI, using the self-same Wiswell crap they debunked more than a decade ago.

Read the whole thing here. For the confounding factors the AAP specified in Wiswell's work, go here.Orly21 04:15, 17 October 2011 (CDT)

For Later Inclusion

[from circumstitions:] <quote> In 2001, the AAP's Committee on Psychosocial Aspects of Child and Family Health, along with the American Pain Society's Task Force on Pain in Infants, Children, and Adolescents, issued a Policy Statement , which says Local anesthetics and strategies to soothe and minimize distress should be considered even for simple procedures, such as venipuncture. Some common painful minor procedures, such as circumcision, do not always receive the warranted attention to comfort issues. Available research indicates that newborn circumcisions are a significant source of pain during the procedure and are associated with irritability and feeding disturbances during the days afterward.9-11 Opportunities for alleviating pain exist before, during, and after the procedure, and many interventions are effective.12-17 - "The Assessment and Management of Acute Pain in Infants, Children, and Adolescents" (0793) Pediatrics, Volume 108, Number 3, September 2001, pp 793-797 ...but of course, the most effective intervention, and the greatest opportunity for alleviating pain (completely) exists instead of the procedure: saying No to circumcision. </quote> We should write about more AAP policy contradictions when time allows. I wonder if we will have to make its own page.
